At the time of canceling a train ticket booked online through the IRCTC website, the process involves automatic refund to the account used for payment. While no separate cancellation charge is paid upfront, it’s essential to be aware of the rules governing cancellations, especially to avoid any deduction from your account.
Refund Rules for Confirmed Tickets :-
Timing is crucial when canceling a confirmed ticket to ensure a refund. Here are key considerations:
No refund if canceled less than 4 hours before the scheduled departure time.
No refund after the chart has been prepared, irrespective of confirmation or Tatkal status.
No refund for confirmed tickets in the current season, even if canceled.
Waiting List and RAC Ticket Refund Rules :-
For those on the waiting list or with RAC tickets, the following rules apply:
Cancel RAC or waiting list tickets 30 minutes before the scheduled departure for a refund.
A cancellation charge of Rs 60 applies for sleeper class, and Rs 65 for AC class, with the remaining amount refunded.
Understanding these rules ensures a hassle-free ticket cancellation experience and helps avoid disappointment due to unforeseen circumstances.
