In its latest tweet, WhatsApp stated, "No charger, no problem. Now you can link WhatsApp to up to four devices so your chats stay synced, encrypted, and accessible even after your phone goes offline."
If you wish to use your WhatsApp account on multiple devices, follow these steps to link your account to your primary mobile device.
How to link multiple devices on WhatsApp
- Open WhatsApp on your primary device which is linked to your phone number.
- Go to "Settings" and select "Linked Devices."
- Tap "Link a New Device" and follow the on-screen instructions.
- To connect a second device like on Windows Desktop, open the WhatsApp Web page on a web browser (web.whatsapp.com).
- Scan the QR code on the web page with your second device.
- Wait for the devices to sync up. Your chats will appear on the second device.
- Repeat the same process to link more devices.
- You can link up to 4 devices together and the linked devices will remain connected to your WhatsApp account as long as they are connected to the internet.
- You can also unlink the device anytime by logging out from the WhatsApp app.
"You can use up to four linked devices and one phone at a time.
Your personal messages, media, and calls are end-to-end encrypted. Each linked device connects to WhatsApp independently while maintaining the same level of privacy and security through end-to-end encryption that people who use WhatsApp have come to expect," reads WhatsApp's user guide.
Note that your phone doesn't need to stay online to use WhatsApp on linked devices. However, your linked devices will be logged out if you don't use your phone for over 14 days. Additionally, you need your primary phone to register your WhatsApp account and link new devices.
