Reports suggest that 5G services will roll out in a phased manner and during the first phase only select cities will get the taste of fast-speed internet service. To be specific, 5G services will roll out in just 13 cities in the first phase. The list includes:
-Ahmedabad
-Bengaluru
-Chandigarh
-Chennai
-Delhi
-Gandhinagar
-Gurugram
-Hyderabad
-Jamnagar
-Kolkata
-Lucknow
-Mumbai
-Pune
Now, does this mean everyone living in these cities will get access to 5G services when the first rollout happens? No, that may not happen. It is possible that telcos may provide access to 5G in select areas of these cities, which are not known yet. In simple words, there’s still a lot of time for 5G to reach everyone in these cities.
Last week, Telecom minister Ashwini Vaishnaw asked telecom service providers to get ready for the 5G launch after issuing spectrum allocation letters. "Spectrum assignment letter issued. Requesting TSPs to prepare for 5G launch,” the telecom minister said. For the unaware, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, Adani Data Networks and Vodafone Idea have been the successful bidders in the recently held 5G spectrum auction.
