Don't respond to calls/messages asking for e-KYC verification
Beware of the fraudulent messages asking you to call any number for verification.
Don't download any app on your phone for KYC update or any other kind of verification
The letter asks Jio customers to not download any app to update their KYC/Aadhaar details. It says that Jio never asks you to download any third-party app for such activities. "Please stay alert from such SMS/calls as this may result in financial loss. Do not download remote access apps, as fraudsters will get access to all your phone’s information," says the letter.
Don't share your Aadhaar number, OTP or bank account number with anyone claiming to be Jio representative
The company said that in recent past few cases related to cyber fraud have been reported in which imposters portray themselves as Jio representatives and insist on getting the information related to subscribers' Aadhaar, bank accounts, OTP etc mainly on pretext of pending eKYC (Know Your Customer).
Don't believe callers that your connection will be cut
The telco has asked customers to not believe any SMS/calls that ask them to complete e-KYC else their mobile services will be discontinued.
Don't call back on numbers given in SMSes to get e-KYC done
The letter asks customers not to call back on numbers given in such e-KYC SMSes. "Usually a call back number is also mentioned to share the details. When the customer calls on the given number, he/she is asked to install a third-party app which allows imposters to take remote access to customer’s phone and the bank accounts associated with the device,” letter says explaining the modus operandi.
Don't click on any link received in messages that the caller claiming to be Jio representative sends
Jio asks customers not to click on links, attachments that callers claiming to be from Jio send. It advises them against responding to such unsolicited communications.
Why Reliance Jio will never ask you to download an app
The company says that it need not ever ask customers to download third-party apps as all relevant information can be found in the MyJio app.
