Just like every season, a lot of international players have become a part of the tournament to make it more interesting. All the teams are allowed a maximum of eight overseas players in the squad out of which four players are allowed in the playing XI. Not only do they play an important role in the squad configuration, but they also bring in the much-needed X-factor to the squad. Apart from the players, the franchises also roped in former Australian players like Ricky Ponting, Simon Katich, and Trevor Bayliss as head coaches owing to their expertise.
From power-hitters to deadly bowlers, here is a list of all the Australian players in the IPL this season:
Mumbai Indians:
Nathan Coulter-Nile: One of the most promising prospects to play for the franchise, the right arm pacer had picked five wickets from just the seven games he played in the IPL 2020. The franchise bought him again in the 2021 auctions for INR 5 cr. His ability to score big might contribute a lot of crucial runs down the order.
Chris Lynn- The destructive opening batsman had been picked by the team in IPL 2020 at the base price of Rs 2 crores. Despite not making an appearance in the previous season, he was retained by the franchise owing to his brilliance.
Chennai Super Kings:
Jason Behrendorff - The fast bowler had been signed up by CSK in the IPL 2021 as a replacement for Josh Hazlewood, who had withdrawn from the tournament citing personal reasons. Jason Behrendorff has played for MI in the IPL 2019 and had picked up 5 wickets in the 5 games he played.
Delhi Capitals:
Steve Smith- The ace player moved to the team from Rajasthan Royals after being bought for INR 2.20 Cr during the player auction ahead of the IPL 2021. Having played 95 IPL matches as of 2020, the batsman has scored over 2300 runs including a century and 11 fifties.
Marcus Stoinis- The all-rounder joined the squad after the IPL 2020 auction, and has impressed ever since. By scoring over 350 runs and scalping 13 wickets, he had been instrumental during DC’s run to the final in the season.
Kolkata Knight Riders:
Pat Cummins- The brilliant bowler was retained by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2021 auction, owing to his stellar performance in the previous season. Having named the most expensive buy, he had proved his worth by scalping 12 wickets in 14 games including a 4-wicket haul in IPL 2020.
Ben Cutting- As a veteran of the domestic scene in Australia, the all-rounder is capable of hitting big with the bat, and also poses a serious threat to the opponents with the ball. After missing a season, he will be back in the league to set the field ablaze.
Punjab Kings:
Moises Henriques- The allrounder is back in the League for the first time in four years. Having played a vital role for the Sunrisers in their winning campaign in 2016, Moises will look to propel the Punjab Kings to a victory this time.
Riley Meredith- The youngster had made his Australia debut in New Zealand and had twice pinned Kane Williamson lbw. He was picked up by the franchise for a whopping INR 8 Crore despite being a new face in the league.
Jhye Richardson- The young right-arm pacer became the fourth most expensive player in the IPL 14 auction after the franchise roped him in for a whopping price of Rs 14 crores. His rapid progress in the career is all thanks to his extraordinary bowling skills. After picking 29 wickets for the Perth Scorchers, he had become the leading wicket-taker in the BBL.
Rajasthan Royals:
Andrew Tye- The 34-year bowler is referred to as the T20 specialist. He had earned recognition in the recent Australian season with his “faster than ever” bowling. He is also the winner of the 2018 IPL Purple Cap and might bolster the performance of his team this season.
Royal Challengers Bangalore:
Dan Christian- After representing RCB in 2013, the allrounder is back to the side in the 2021 edition of the league. His rich experience is just what the team needs.
Glenn Maxwell- An excellent batsman, a brilliant fielder, and a player who never fails to generate interest, Glenn Maxwell is as destructive as one can get. Out of the 82 matches he has played as ofIPL 2020; he had scored a whopping 1505 runs and is a crucial part of the team.
Kane Richardson- One of the best young and talented pacers in the league, Kane Richardson had taken seven wickets in the recent series against New Zealand including two three-wicket hauls and can contribute a lot to the team.
Daniel Sams- The left-arm pacer had skipped the last year's tournament to be at the birth of his first child. He has been in excellent form recently and had hammered 41 runs off 15 balls in the second T20I against New Zealand. He will look to do wonders for the Royal Challengers.
Adam Zampa- The leg-spinner was picked as a replacement for the compatriot Kane Richardson ahead of the 2020 edition of the league. His excellent control and variety give him an edge over his opponents.
Sunrisers Hyderabad:
David Warner- A thorough entertainer on and off the field, the SRH skipper is loved by many. He has stood out as one of the highest run-scorers in the IPL and has won the orange cap twice, making him a likely contender this time as well.
With all these talented players coming together, the League is going to be a feast for the eyes.
