WhatsApp pushes back date to accept its new terms to May 15

WhatsApp announced no user on the platform would have their account suspended or deleted on February 8 and that it was pushing back the date of data-sharing change to May 15 after users
globally raised concerns about privacy and flocked to other alternatives such as Telegram and Signal.

The most popular messaging app across the world has postponed its February 8 deadline for accepting an update to its conditions, adding that it would use the brief hiatus to clear up misinformation around privacy.

"We’re now moving back the date on which people will be asked to review and accept the terms. No one will have their account suspended or deleted on February 8. We're also going to do a lot more to clear up the misinformation around how privacy and security works on WhatsApp.

"We’ll then go to people gradually to review the policy at their own pace before new business options are available on May 15," the Facebook-owned messaging platform wrote in a blog post.

Clearing the air around privacy concerns, the Facebook-owned company highlighted that it would allow users to gradually review the policy 'at their own pace'.

"We're also going to do a lot more to clear up the misinformation around how privacy and security works on WhatsApp. We’ll then go to people gradually to review the policy at their own pace before new business options are available on May 15," the company added in the blog post.

This comes after WhatsApp drew widespread flak for announcing it was revising its privacy policy, which indicated a deeper integration with Facebook over data sharing, thus, giving way to hundreds of people opting for Telegram and Signal -- WhatsApp's alternatives.

The social networking giant was sending in-app notifications to its users and was informing them that it has decided to enforce new usage terms that give it wider control over users' data.
