For the vaccination purpose, age of an individual will be calculated based on the cut-off date of January 1, 2021 and anyone born on or before January 1, 1971 will fall under the category to be vaccinated on priority, the Economic Times mentioned in a report citing the 113-page operational guideline shared with states.
How to register for Covid-19 vaccination
In order to get vaccination, beneficiaries will have to preregister in Co-WIN— a digital platform that the health ministry has developed to monitor Covid-19 vaccination in real time — in accordance with prioritisation and there will be no provision for on-the-spot registration, the guidelines said.
“The timing for rollout of vaccination in these three priority groups (healthcare workers, frontline workers, people aged above 50 years) will be tailored based on vaccine availability and is not necessarily sequential,” it said. “In phase-1 of the vaccination, it is planned to vaccinate nearly 30 crore population.”
The group of above 50 years will be further subdivided into those above 60 years of age and those between 50 to 60 years of age for purposes of phasing of roll out based on pandemic situation and vaccine availability, the document mentioned. The vaccination process will be similar to election process, it said.
Once the priority groups are covered, the remaining population will be vaccinated based on the disease epidemiology and vaccine availability.
General population wanting to get the shot will also have to self-register on the Co-WIN website by providing their basic details like name, date of birth, permanent and current address and details of comorbidities, if any.
