Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has permitted Common Service Centres (CSCs), a special purpose vehicle under the Ministry of Information Technology and Electronics with designated banking correspondents, to offer the facility to update Aadhar card at around 20,000 centres. People can also access Aadhaar-related services at bank branches, post offices and other centres at government premises authorised by UIDAI.
Aadhar is a 12-digit unique identity number that residents in India can obtain voluntarily based on their biometric (fingerprints, iris scans and a facial photograph) and demographic (date of birth, name, gender, address) data. Aadhar card or e-Aadhar card is a valid proof of identity.

Why is Aadhar card required?

Can one apply for Aadhar card twice?
An individual may apply or enroll for the Aadhar card more than once but the UID number can only be one since it is issued against the uique biometrics of an individual.
What is the validity time of Aadhar card?
An Aadhar card comes with lifetime validity. Individuals may update their Aadhar card whenever required.
Can money be withdrawn using Aadhar card?
Unlike a Rupay Card, Aadhar is not a debit card or an ATM card that can be directly used to withdraw money. Having said that, the Aadhar number may be used to make a payment via BHIM Aadhaar Pay app of any bank from your Aadhaar-linked bank account.
