WhatsApp gets call waiting feature on Android, with a caveat

WhatsApp is rolling out a stable update for its Android app that brings a host of new features and improvements including a new call waiting feature.

The update also marks a wider release of the enhanced group
privacy controls and fingerprint lock feature. An issue that caused fast battery drain on some devices, has also been fixed.

Call waiting feature :-

The update brings a new call waiting feature that allows you to accept an incoming WhatsApp call while you are already on another call. However, unlike voice calls, you won't be able to put calls on hold or host a conference call.

Hence, you can either continue with the ongoing WhatsApp call or disconnect it to accept the other incoming call.

Updated group privacy controls reach to more users :-

The latest update also brings enhanced group privacy controls to more users. As part of the new settings, WhatsApp users will have the power to control who can add them to groups.

You can try the feature by going to Account > Privacy > Groups in the settings menu and select from 'Everyone', 'My Contacts', and 'My Contacts Except' options.

Update also adds fingerprint lock feature :-

WhatsApp has also introduced a fingerprint lock feature to more devices via this update. It allows you to unlock the app only with your fingerprints, thereby blocking any unauthorized access.

To enable this feature, you can go to Settings > Account > Privacy >Settings > Account > Privacy > Fingerprint lock and select the time frame after which the app should be automatically locked.

Side-load the app via APKMirror :-

The update is now live on Google Play Store and it should arrive for your handset in the coming days if you haven't received it yet. However, if you don't want to wait, you can side-load the stable update (version 2.19.352) from APKMirror.
