RailTel has been created for the purpose of providing Wi-Fi at railway stations. RailTel has partnered with Google for setting up a fast Wi-Fi network, initially covering 400 stations for providing fast Wi-Fi to millions of passengers every day. Wi-Fi services to passengers are being provided under ‘Railwire’, the retail Broadband distribution model of RailTel, IRCTC said. Railwire Wi-Fi is available to all users who have a working mobile connection on a smartphone.
According to the IRCTC, RailTel Wi-Fi services, once implemented fully, shall be one of the largest public Wi-Fi projects in the world. IRCTC Wi-Fi service provides high-speed connectivity for viewing uninterrupted high definition video, download of movies, songs, games to the passengers at the railway station. RailTel is entitled to provide high-speed end-to-end network connectivity on fiber, while Google is responsible for providing the radio access network along with technical support.
A person can use the RailTel Wi-Fi services by connecting to the RailWire network. In order to connect to the RailWire network, you are required to go to the Wi-Fi settings and select RailWire network and open www.railwire.co.in in the browser. Enter the phone number on the window opened and click on ‘RECEIVE SMS’. Enter the 4-digit one-time password (OTP) received through SMS and press 'DONE'. Following these steps, the Wi-Fi facility will be enabled in your smartphone.
