Passport under tatkal, documents accepted on out of turn basis

With the relaxation provided by the government for the tatkal passport applicant, the ease of obtaining a passport has surely increased now as relatively compared to the situation before. All the passport applicants who are applied under the
tatkal quota are not mandated to provide a verification certificate signed by a gazetted officer which was required earlier. The Passport Seva Kendras advises the people applying for a passport under the tatkal scheme to submit any of the three documents from the prescribed list by the government and an affidavit in the format of Annexure-E.

The documents accepted by the Passport Seva Kendras for the issuance of passports on out of turn basis are Aadhaar card/e-Aadhar, electoral photo ID card, service photo ID card issued by State/Central Government, PSU, local bodies or Public Ltd Companies, SC/ST/ OBC certificates, arms licenses, pension documents such as ex-servicemen's Pension Book/pension payment order, ex-servicemen's widow/dependent certificates, old age pension order and widow pension order.

Other than these, the Passport Seva Kendra also accepts several other documents including self-passport (unrevoked and undamaged), PAN cards, bank/Kisan/post office passbooks, student photo identity cards issued by Government recognized educational institutions in respect of full time courses, driving licenses (valid and within the jurisdiction of State of submission of application), birth Certificates issued under the RBD Act and rations cards.

For obtaining a passport under the tatkal scheme, an applicant is required to pay a higher fee as against the conventional fee which is applicable on the normal passport application form. The delivery of passport is subject to the successful submission of the passport application form with the assessing officer assigning it a ‘Granted’ status.

With the advancement in the passport disbursal systems by the Indian government, a person can get the passport within one working day excluding the date of submission of the application if there is no requirement of police verification. However, the passport will be delivered on the third working day excluding the date of submission of application, without waiting for the police verification report in case police verification is required on a post-passport issuance basis.
