taken by the CM E Palaniswami led government in Tamil Nadu is seen as an attempt to put money in the hands of all state government employees in the form of a festival advance for their spending during this auspicious period.
Notably, under 7th Pay Commission, government has announced it will double the festival advance from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000. Last time when the state government had increased the festival advance was in 2012 when the festival advance was increased from Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000. As per the notification issued by the Tamil Nadu government, the decision would benefit all state government employees, teaching and non-teaching staffs and aided educational institutions.
Festival Advance: As per the 7th Pay Commission norms, the government has made provisions for the festival advance to its employees. All state and central employees are eligible for the festival advance, which if they want can get it adjusted with their monthly salary.
It should be noted that the Tamil Nadu Government has already implemented 7th Pay Commission recommendations in the state in 2017 benefiting around 10 lakh state government employees and pensioners. After the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission panel recommendations, the monthly salary of Tamil Nadu state government employees went up roughly around 20 per cent.
This move of the E Palaniswami government in Tamil Nadu to raise festival advance after 7th Pay Commission's implementations is like icing on the cake.
