Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has enabled various methods for the payment of the ticket booking amount on the IRCTC e-ticketing website, www.irctc.co.in. IRCTC e-wallet is one of the payment options
among other payment channels such as debit cards, credit cards, net banking, mobile wallets, IRCTC-SBI co-branded cards, etc, which can be used for paying the train ticket booking amount on the IRCTC website.

According to IRCTC, the IRCTC e-wallet can be topped up in advance before proceeding for the ticket booking process and can be used seamlessly as a payment option for paying the ticket booking transaction amount. A user can register for the IRCTC e-wallet by paying a non-refundable fee of Rs 50 (excluding service tax) and a transaction charge of Rs 10 (excluding service tax).
The facility of IRCTC e-wallet can only be availed by resident Indians with a working Indian mobile number, IRCTC said. With the facility of IRCTC e-wallet account, a user can save money on payment gateway charges per ticket and can save time by eliminating the payment approval cycle.
The IRCTC e-wallet account can be managed and refilled by logging into the IRCTC e-ticketing website by using the registered IRCTC login ID and password. IRCTC e-wallet account reduces the dependency on other payment channels such as a bank, mobile-e-wallet as a user can book train tickets when any of the provided banks turn offline.
With the incorporation of IRCTC e-wallet account, IRCTC offers secure ticket booking by providing transaction password/PIN which will be required to be entered for every train ticket booking done via IRCTC e-wallet. Interestingly, the refund amount will be credited back to the user’s IRCTC e-wallet account on the next day in case of ticket cancellation. IRCTC e-wallet transaction history, IRCTC e-wallet payment history can be checked by a separate link provided by the IRCTC with which users can also change the transaction password.
How to register for IRCTC e-wallet? How to pay ticket booking amount?
Firstly, a user is required to login to the IRCTC account with the existing IRCTC user ID and password. Navigate to the IRCTC e-wallet section on ‘Plan My Travel’ page and click on ‘IRCTC e-wallet Registration’ link. IRCTC e-wallet user verification can be completed by providing the PAN card or Aadhaar card details along with other user-specific description. A user will be directed to pay a one-time non-refundable registration fee of Rs 50 via any of the payment options available for IRCTC e-wallet.
Following the successful registration of IRCTC e-wallet account, a user can add a minimum deposit of Rs 100 up to a higher limit of Rs 10,000. IRCTC suggests that passengers can top-up the IRCTC e-wallet account accordingly to the required ticket booking amount. The ticket booking amount can be paid through IRCTC e-wallet account which will be displayed as a payment option along with other payment channels. IRCTC has the right to change the membership fee and redemption of the IRCTC e-wallet account.
