According to the I-T department, any change in the PAN database such as name, address, date of birth, age, etc which was provided at the time of obtaining the card should be intimated to the department by furnishing details in the form. One has raise a ‘Request for New Pan card or add changes or correction in PAN data.
A PAN card correction can be done both online and offline.
In case, if you want to opt for offline mode then you will have to submit the "Request For New PAN Card Or/ And Changes or Correction in PAN Data" form at the nearest PAN facilitation centre. For opting online mode, one can complete the process on NSDL website https://www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/endUserRegisterContact.html.
When you open the link mentioned above, you will be directed to a page. Select changes or correction in existing PAN data or reprint under the section of Application Type. Secondly, select the category if you are an individual or association or body of individual or company or trust or LLP.
After this, enter correct first name, middle name, last name, date of birth, email id, PAN number and other details. Also, feed in captcha code and submit it. Once you have raised the request, your new data will be forwarded for update and after confirmation, a new PAN card will be dispatched at the given address.
You can track the status of your PAN card, by using 15-digit acknowledgment number which will be given at the time of application. Generally track the status after three days time of request.
The second mode for correcting PAN card is via UTIITSL. Click on this link https://www.myutiitsl.com/PAN_ONLINE/CSFPANApp. Here you can directly update your Aadhaar card with PAN, because in this form it is mandatory to provide details of the 12-digit biometric number for changes or correctness in your PAN card.
At UTIITS, applicant has to fill in all mandatory fields freshly, however, they must select a tick mark box on places where they want to make changes. Once provided all information, a citizen will have to make online payment.
After making payment, an applicant can take a print out of their new form and attach documents as proof of identity, address and date of birth strictly. The new PAN card form along with three necessary documents shall be submitted to the nearest UTIITSL office address in Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai or New Delhi for the issuance of a new card.
If request raised at NSDL, once you have received your new modified PAN card, you can link it with Aadhaar online. Visit www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in, and clink on Link Aadhaar section mentioned below. Give in details of your PAN number, Aadhaar number, name as per Aadhaar and enter captcha code and click on link option.
Because you have already submitted your Aadhaar details at UTIITSL, you can just check the status of your Aadhaar - Pan card link at e-filing portal. All you have to do is provide in details like PAN and Aadhaar number, then click on View Link Aadhaar status. If you cannot see the status, then follow the link procedure as mentioned above. Checking link status of these two identical proofs is applicable for all whether you have applied it online or offline or linked via e-filing or sms.
Taxpayer who wants to link their Aadhaar number with PAN is required to send SMS to 567678 or 56161 in following format:
UIDPAN<space><12 digit Aadhaar><space><10 digit PAN>
Example of SMS to 567678 or 56161: UIDPAN 111122223333 AAAPA9999Q
Aadhaar number will be linked with PAN if name of taxpayer is identical to Aadhaar and PAN.
Hence, do not worry just follow the above mentioned procedures and link Aadhaar with corrected PAN card.
