India’s first LTE-only network Reliance Jio has announced the launch of VoLTE-based inbound International roaming service between India and Japan. Jio is the first telecom service provider to launch such service in India. With this service, international roamers will be able to enjoy roaming services on Jio’s network including HD voice and 4G high-speed data.
Japan-based KDDI Corporation is the first international mobile service provider to avail of Jio’s VoLTE calling and LTE data international roaming service which provides international travellers with access to high-speed data and voice services on Jio’s all-IP, 4G-only network.
VoLTE International Roaming Service?
Jio has inked a deal with Japan’s KDDI Corporation which is a telecom service provider in the said country. It’s basically the same roaming agreement deal between two telcos, and Jio is giving a fancy name to it. But Jio being a 4G-only operator, the telco is calling it as VoLTE International Roaming Service.
With this new arrangement, international travellers will be able to experience Jio’s all-IP network when they travel to India. That said, users of KDDI will have to activate a international roaming plan before travelling to India.
“Reliance Jio is focused on delivering the best data and voice experience to all of India and those who visit India. We welcome KDDI customers to Jio as the first international VoLTE and HD roaming users in India,” said Mark Yarkosky, Reliance Jio in a press statement.
